Financial Aid Award Year
Dependent Checklist
2008-09

Step 1:  Department of Education PIN and Federal Financial Aid Form (FAFSA).

If you or your parent don't already have a PIN, apply for one now. Your conditional PINs will either be given to you immediately on the Web site when you apply or e-mailed to you immediately from the Federal Government.  Be sure keep and safeguard your PIN as you will need it for future years and other processes.  You and your parent will each need a PIN to submit and electronically sign your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  (Section 2 of the Web site.)

Some students and parents find it helpful to fill out a Pre-Application Worksheet first (Section 1 of the Web site).  If you have all ready completed your FAFSA for this award year, please use your PIN and make a correction by adding our school code, 004057, to your processed FAFSA (Section 3 of the Web site).

Review all of your answers on your SAR and notify us if you have any corrections to be made.

Step 5:  Once you have received your Student Aid Report (SAR), if you or your parent have not borrowed a Federal Student Loan before or you are transferring into NAU, the student will need to complete and submit a Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN) for their loans and the parent will need to complete and submit a PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note for the parent's loans.  The Master Promissory Notes will be electronically signed using the Department of Education PINs.  Each year the parent will need to complete a PLUS Pre-Approval (credit check).  The student will be directed to complete Loan Entrance Counseling once they have electronically submitted their MPN, the parent does not have to complete Loan Entrance Counseling.
