Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) online program with emphasis in Nursing Education has been developed to prepare future nurse educators for leadership in the field. The program prepares nurse educators to teach undergraduate students in schools of nursing, assume leadership roles in staff development, and participate in innovative programs in health education within a global environment. The major goal of the program is to prepare graduates to teach in a variety of educational and healthcare settings including schools of nursing, staff development departments, and/or patient client education programs.
Curriculum
Graduates of the master’s program in nursing education are prepared with the essential research and theory core necessary for a career in nursing education. Students choose a practice specialty core in simulation or online education that extends their knowledge in a chosen field of practice and receive preparation in nursing education. Course work in nursing education emphasizes developing in the role as an educator and/or faculty member. Emphasis is on application of theories and principles of teaching/learning in a variety of healthcare settings and academic nursing settings. Through seminar discussions and individual and group projects, students will explore issues in teaching, curriculum development, evaluation methodologies, technology mediated learning strategies, and current practice standards. Teaching practical experiences are designed to provide beginning experiences in the classroom, clinical settings, and in the use of current technologies in simulation or online learning that relate to the role of the teacher in an academic and/or healthcare setting. This approach allows a student to integrate prior and current learning while providing flexibility and scholarship.
