The IACBE’s philosophy of accreditationis centered on student learning and operational outcomes, which makes it flexible and adaptable.
The IACBE accredits business programs in colleges and universities through the United States and internationally.
Accreditation by the IACBE provides many benefits. These include:
Enhanced reputation. In 1988, only 288 of the approximately 1400 U.S. colleges and universities offering bachelor’s or graduate degrees in business had their programs accredited. Now, more than half of them do. In ten more years, it is anticipated that over 90 percent of these programs will have specialized accreditation. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to for an institution’s reputation to have achieved accredited status for its business programs.
Evidence of quality. Through its accreditation process, the IACBE provides external assurance of quality in an institution’s business programs, and ensures that its academic business unit exhibits the characteristics of excellence in business education. Both graduates and their employers need and are entitled to this quality assurance.
Continuous improvement. The growing complexity of the global business environment requires an academic business unit to prepare itself and its students for the future. Consequently, the quality of an academic business unit’s performance depends on its efforts in continuous improvement in its activities and operations to meet future challenges. The IACBE’s accreditation process fosters high levels of academic quality and promotes continuous improvement in the overall performance of an academic business unit.
Best practices. The IACBE supports and promotes innovation and creativity in teaching and learning through the sharing of best practices in business education. The IACBE sponsors and conducts conferences and workshopsthroughout the year to assist in the professional development of business faculty and to share best practices in business education.
Accountability. The demand for public accountability in higher education is increasing rapidly. Specialized accreditation by the IACBE provides external accountability for the quality of an institution’s business programs.
International perspectives. The IACBE accredits business programs in institutions of higher education throughout the world. Institutions located outside of the United States with high-quality business programs are encouraged to obtain specialized accreditation through the IACBE, which allows them the opportunity to partner and engage in student/faculty exchanges with IACBE member academic business units. The IACBE’s mission-based, outcomes-driven approach to accreditation allows it to accommodate the distinctive characteristics of educational institutions throughout the world.
