National American University's Diploma in Medical Assisting program at its Denver school (Centennial) utilizes a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions, as well as a practicum following completion of required coursework, to prepare you for entry-level positions in ambulatory healthcare settings. Medical assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a healthcare provider such as a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a healthcare provider. Graduates of the Medical Assisting Diploma Program are able to sit for the following exams:

  • Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing)
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (American Medical Certification Association)

The medical assisting programs offered at Albuquerque, Bellevue, Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, Centennial, Colorado Springs, Georgetown, Independence, Indianapolis, Mesquite, Rochester, Roseville, Sioux Falls, Tulsa, Wichita (East), and Zona Rosa are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) on the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
