- Medical Assistants
National American University's Diploma in Medical Assisting program utilizes a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions, as well as a practicum following completion of required coursework, to prepare you for entry-level positions in ambulatory healthcare settings. Medical assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a healthcare provider such as a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a healthcare provider. Students in some programs may be required to take online classes and attend classes at different locations.
Graduates of the Medical Assisting Diploma Program are able to sit for the following exams:
