The Associate of Applied Science Paralegal degree program offered through NAU's school in Dallas (Lewisville) will help you build a strong foundation of training and skills needed to succeed in the workplace. A Paralegal is defined by the American Bar Association (“ABA”) as an individual who is retained by a lawyer, law office, or corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.” National American University offers degree programs in both the Associate of Applied Science and the Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies. The Paralegal Studies degree offered at NAU's Lewisville, TX campus provides students with the technical knowledge of a law office applications and the substantive legal knowledge to be a critical part of a legal team. The program is approved by the ABA at the Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro (Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, Burnsville, Minnetonka, and Roseville).

Graduates of NAU’s paralegal studies programs are eligible to sit for the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) exam administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and receive the designation of "Certified Paralegal" or "CP". Graduates may also seek certification from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) through the Paralegal CORE Competency Exam™ (PCCE™) exam.
A paralegal may not give legal advice, represent a client in court, or set fees. A paralegal is not an attorney. Some jurisdictions regulate the admission of individuals into the paralegal profession. A person convicted of a felony may not be able to serve as a paralegal in certain states. Please consult with your state’s judicial offices to determine the regulation of paralegals in your state.
