WICHITA, KANSAS – Tiffany Walter of Wichita, Kansas and a nursing student at National American University’s Wichita West location, has been awarded the fourth Kaitlyn English Memorial Scholarship from the National American University Foundation (NAUF).

“Becoming a nurse is something I have always been interested in pursuing,” said Tiffany. “I’ve never seriously considered any other career path.”

Tiffany’s ultimate goal is to become a nurse of anesthesia. Becoming a registered nurse is the first step. “To get this degree is a stepping stone to where I want to be,” said Tiffany. She is expected to graduate this spring.

Kaitlyn English was a NAU-Wichita West nursing student who died tragically in a car accident on January 22, 2016. The scholarship in her memory was made possible by Kaitlyn’s mother, Tami English, and other donors who knew Kaitlyn.

“This scholarship means a lot because of Kate. She had a personality that was open and willing to go the extra mile to help someone else. This scholarship definitely honors Kate’s memory,” Tiffany reflected.

Deb Arens, Alejandra Delgado and Gabriela Torres, also NAU-Wichita West nursing students and Kaitlyn’s peers, have been prior recipients of this scholarship in Kaitlyn’s memory.

“I am grateful for NAU and what it gave Kate, and to the NAU Foundation for providing a way to make this scholarship in her memory possible,” said Tami English. “I wish that life didn’t play out the way it has, but I had a compelling need to turn it positive. This scholarship and the students who will carry forth Kate’s legacy are very meaningful to me and our family.”

The National American University Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, supports NAU students and faculty through scholarships and professional development funds.
