National American University is excited to announce the addition of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at the Albuquerque campus. The BSN program is a four-year, pre-licensure program preparing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the vast field of nursing. The need for quality, skilled nurses continues to be on the rise, with a projected growth in opportunity for registered nurses of 26% by 2020[i].

NAU School of Nursing received initial approval from the New Mexico Board of Nursing earlier this month allowing the Albuquerque campus to begin offering nursing classes to students. “We are really excited!” said Campus Director, Jessica Carr. “I think this is going to be a fantastic opportunity for Albuquerque and the surrounding areas to serve both our students and the vast number of hospitals in our area.”

The program offers an innovative design that enables the student nurse to provide care to individuals, families, and communities. By focusing on the current research in nursing education and nursing practice, the program gives the student nurse a strong foundation for developing specialized clinical practice and skills necessary to enter the field.  NAU’s School of Nursing has qualified nursing instructors and program chairs with years of experience in nursing education, fundamentals, and training.  “NAU’s School of Nursing four-year BSN program offers students the opportunity to learn in a caring, diverse, student-centered setting,” said Deborah Cassaday, BSN Program Chair.

Contributing to both the excitement and success of the new program is the new nursing lab, complete with nursing simulation models. Nursing simulation serves as an important tool in the development of practical skills for students. “The lab is impeccable. The amount of thought and time that went into the build is very evident of the facility,” said Jessica Carr. “I’m excited to see the students come in and receive the opportunity they deserve.”
