While coronavirus has made social distancing our new normal, self-isolation can be psychologically overwhelming, especially for those who aren’t able to work. Mental health experts agree that maintaining a routine, staying connected online and keeping your mind engaged can help you feel more in control. What better way to make the most of downtime than to focus on your education!

Start a degree, finish your degree, or get a certificate to enhance your skills, and you could position yourself for a more successful career when the country goes back to work. Check out these resources to help you get ahead while you’re at home.

  1. APA writing skills https://national.libguides.com/apaAPA is the writing format commonly used to cite sources in research papers and other scholarly communications. It helps writers present their ideas in a clear, precise, and inclusive manner and provides a standardized format for referencing source material. A complete guide can be found here.
  2. Learner Services – NAU offers a variety of resources to help students succeed. Tutoring is available for select courses for those who need help with classwork. Our Librarians can assist with researching, writing and reviewing papers. And you can always rely on your student services advisor for advice and inspiration!
  3. DSST/CLEP tests – Take the opportunity to earn more college credit. The DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) assess college-level knowledge in dozens of subject areas. Many colleges will give you credit in core classes for successful completion of these exams, so you can earn your degree in much less time (and for less cost). Be sure to check with your school first!
  4. Refresher courses –NAU offers its graduates the opportunity to come back and re-take any course they’ve previously taken and passed, tuition-free. It’s a great way to stay current on the skills and techniques you need to stay successful.

You can do it! Take this opportunity to brush up on old skills learned years ago, or pick up a few new ones. Whatever your educational goals, NAU is here to support you every step of the way!
